We had the Mi A2 for mid-rangers which is overall pretty good, but the battery backup is a bit too low and the design is pretty average. Then came the exciting Xiaomi Pocophone F1 but the price is a bit too high for Bangladeshi Mid-rangers. Then came the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite which is kind of a mix of everything but nothing too special. So, it didn’t get that much response either. So, the Xiaomi fans in Bangladesh with the medium budget have been looking for something more charismatic. Now, we have got the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. Is this a winner? Let us see in this review.
48+5 Megapixel primary camera is the big deal here for many. But there are a few things to clarify. Some are saying that Snapdragon 660 supports only 25 MP camera as per specs sheet so how this phone supports 48+5 MP? After checking out the camera for a while, we found out that it is actually a 12 MP camera, but the pro mode lets you capture 48 MP shots. Then Xiaomi is using an extra Samsung sensor that can process the 48 MP shots. There is a bit of tweak in the technology, but the 48 MP is legit. So, you will have a bit more details and dynamic range than the regular shots with 12 MP. But the difference wouldn’t be that big. We have seen slightly better shots with the AI feature on. But overall it is nothing unique in this price range. After all, megapixel is just a small fact of many facts about a camera. We will put the 13+5 MP back camera of Samsung Galaxy M20 in a much higher position with more natural and vibrant colors, excellent details, feeling of authentic surroundings. The 13 MP front camera of Redmi Note 7 is decent, but nothing extraordinary as well. The AI soft polishing is quite visible which is a drawback for natural photography lovers.
The so-called water droplet full-view display of Redmi Note 7 looks very elegant. Both front and the back are protected by strong 5th generation Gorilla Glasses. The gradient colors look shiny and premium whereas the black version looks minimal and elegant. The Full HD+ display quality is pretty good as well with an eye-care mode, sunlight mode, night mode and so on. The body is not waterproof, but it can stand minor splashes. Overall, design and display are some of its strong positives.
The battery is a 4000 mAh one with the latest 18W quick charge 4.0 support. Overall, pretty good backup and very fast charging. But you will get a 10W charger in the box. You need to buy an extra charger to use the fast charging which is a disadvantage. Optimized Snapdragon 660 should give you smooth performance and is a great deal for the cost. You may not feel any lag. We recommend the 4 GB version instead of the 3 GB one for clean performance. Here Samsung Galaxy M20 is again in a superior position with a bigger 5000 mAh battery. There is also the mid-range Motorola One Power with 5000 mAh battery, included fast charger, durable water repellent body, better camera in our opinion and with Android One OS as well.
Some other features of Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 are Infrared remote control, FM radio with recording, OTG, decent sound quality, fast fingerprint and face unlock etc. Overall, it is a good value for the money, except that we have expected more premium quality photos from the 48MP back camera. There are also other competitive choices like Samsung Galaxy M20 and Motorola One Power around the price.
